Russian aide states Western sanctions threat against India is ‘glaring hypocrisy’
“This glaring hypocrisy exposes the West’s fundamental double standards,” Alipov wrote, emphasizing that NATO demands sacrifices from other nations while protecting its own interests. He argued that while the West pushes for Russia’s isolation, many of its own countries still purchase Russian oil and products.
Last week, Rutte warned India, China, and Brazil of serious consequences if they persist in doing business with Russia, echoing US President Donald Trump’s calls for secondary sanctions against BRICS nations. He cautioned that continuing such partnerships could “hit [them] very hard.”
Alipov questioned why a NATO official—a representative of a military alliance—was making threats based on U.S. economic policy, suggesting it reflects NATO’s growing overreach. Since 2022, India has dramatically increased its oil imports from Russia, making it one of Moscow’s top trading partners.
The ambassador defended the Russia-India energy relationship, stating it benefits India’s economy, enhances energy security, supports employment, and helps moderate global oil prices. Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has previously echoed similar sentiments.
